Yes, you can sell a used iPhone on eBay. In fact, eBay is a popular platform for selling used electronics, including iPhones. Here are some key points to consider:

  • Value Assessment: Before listing your iPhone, determine its value by checking similar listings on eBay. This will help you set a competitive price and understand the market demand for your model.
  • Listing Process: To sell on eBay, create an account if you don’t have one, then click on “Sell” to start listing your item. Provide detailed information about the iPhone, including its model, condition, and any accessories included. High-quality photos can also enhance your listing.
  • Preparation: Ensure that you wipe your iPhone clean of personal data before selling it. This includes backing up your data, signing out of iCloud and the App Store, and deregistering from iMessage.
  • Selling Options: You can choose between auction-style listings or fixed-price sales. eBay also offers features like “Buy It Now,” which allows buyers to purchase the item immediately at your set price.
  • Risks and Considerations: While selling on eBay can yield a higher price compared to trade-in options, be aware of potential scams and the need for clear communication with buyers regarding the condition of the device.

In summary, selling your used iPhone on eBay is a viable option that can potentially maximize your return compared to other selling methods. Just be sure to prepare adequately and research market prices before listing.

A Few Words About iPhone

The iPhone is one of the best-selling technological products in the world, and thanks to it, Apple is currently the highest-valued company on Wall Street. In fact, as we recently mentioned, the firm could soon exceed $4 trillion in market capitalization, thanks to the integration of artificial intelligence on the iPhone, which could boost sales in 2025.

As a reminder, the first iPhone was introduced in 2007. But the “i” in this brand comes from older Apple products: the iMac (the first version). This PC was presented by Steve Jobs in 1998 and is considered the product that, at the time, saved Apple from bankruptcy. Regarding the “i” in iMac, it has several meanings. First, this letter signaled that the iMac was a PC designed for the internet.

“iMac is the marriage of the excitement of the Internet with the simplicity of Macintosh. Although it’s a full-blown Macintosh, we are targeting it for the number one use that consumers tell us they want a computer for, which is to get on the Internet – simply and fast,” Steve Jobs had said during the presentation in 1998. But besides that, Apple also shared a visual indicating that the letter i can have other meanings: “individual,” “instruct,” “inform,” and “inspire.”

Steve Jobs had another name in mind

The iMac could have had another name: “MacMan.” This is at least what is revealed in an excerpt from the book “Insanely Simple: The Obsession That Drives Apple’s Success” by Ken Segall, the person who led Apple’s “Think different” campaign and who is behind the “i” in iMac, iPhone, iPad, etc. According to this excerpt, Apple had intended to call its computer MacMan (which would have been reminiscent of Sony’s Walkmans). And the idea would have appealed to Steve Jobs.

However, Jobs would have asked Ken Segall’s team to come up with other name ideas. And that’s how the iMac brand was proposed. This proposal wouldn’t have immediately convinced Steve Jobs, who loved the name MacMan. But he eventually changed his mind.

Apple gradually dropping the “i”

Today, Apple has already begun to gradually drop the “i”. Indeed, its most recent products no longer have this prefix, such as the Apple Watch, AirPods, or the Vision Pro headset.
